The brief was to design a piece of artwork with which to cover two huge containers used as a storage facility in the after school club playground.

The major challenge here was to provide a project that suited a wide age range of youngsters from 4-12. The second challenge was financial. Like many public nurseries budgets are always tight and the trick was to come up with something that looked great but didn’t cost the earth.

End Benefit

All the children, regardless of age, enjoyed doing portraits of each other. Working in groups often helps children to feel less self- conscious. The portraits were then transferred on to waterproof marine ply, which were placed on the containers. The result is a fabulous outdoor gallery which is bright and interesting making the children’s playground a much nicer place to be.
